Penang Event: Penang Shanghai World Star Quest

The international singing competition is being organized for the first time outside Shanghai. It is expected to draw about 10,000 spectators.

Organizing chairman Ong Peng Chu said the competition would see 30 contestants from 14 countries.

It is being held here as the state government wants to make Penang an entertainment hub.

"Official broadcaster Astro will be shooting various tourist attractions here, which is also part of the organising committee's efforts to promote Penang," Ong said here yesterday,Present was state Tourism Development, Culture, Arts and Heritage Committee chairman Law Heng Kiang.

Ong said admission was free and tickets were available at Sports Toto outlets and at Juru Auto-City.

Malaysia will be represented by One in a Million Season Two first runner-up Nur Shahila Amir Amzah and Astro Talent Quest contestant Frankie Yu. Singer Misha Omar and Malaysian Idol Season Two winner Daniel Lee will be the guest performers.

Penang Event: Walk for A Change Today

Penang Event: Malam Chap Goh Meh 2008

Dear readers,

Penang Chinese Town Hall (槟州华人大会堂) is organizing the annual event "Malam Chap Goh Meh 2008" (鼠一鼠二元宵共庆会) in front of the town hall on this coming 21st Feb 2008. This Thursday, is the 15th day of Lunar Chinese New Year.

Most Chinese treat it as the last day of the whole CNY and Chinese Valentines Day as well. Throwing Chinese Orange is one of the famous activities during this special day.

During the throwing activity, girls who are still single will write their name, contact info on the orange and throw it to the sea or river, hoping it picked up by someone who had faith tp be her correct partner.

But now, the throwing orange is not only for those singles, but for whoever wanted to make a wish, by writing it on the orange and throw it out. Hoping their wishes come true.

During the event, throwing orange become one of the listed activities. For who is interested in the activities, you can get the chinese orange from the volunteer in front of Guan Yin Temple from 6.00pm. So go and get your orange, write all your wishes and throw it to the "WISHES POND".

Of course that is not the only activity. There are several singing and dancing performance by local singer, lion dance, drum performance, traditional dance, and many more. There will be fireworks by the end of the event.

Please.. Please.. I beg you, don't miss the event. Else... WAIT ANOTHER YEAR..... See you there!!!!!

The road around the Penang Chinese Town Hall is blocked from any vehicle entrance from 8.00pm 20th Feb 2008 until 3.00am 22th Feb 2008. Please go there earlier and park your car at the legal car park and locked it.

Penang Event: Penang Chinese New Year Open House 2008

Dear readers,

I had come across this event from one of my favorite blog KoKahKok.com, and it is one of the event that you shouldn't miss at all as this is the biggest Chinese New Year Open House held in history at Penang. On this coming Saturday, there will be an special Chinese New Year Open House aka Miao Hui (Temple Carnival).

This event will be held at the Heritage Precinct of Penang, covering Lebuh Acheh, Lebuh Armenian, Lebuh Cannon, Lorong Soo Hong and Lebuh Ah Quee from 4pm to 11.30pm on Feb 16th.

This event is initiated by the state government and Tourism Action Council and organised by the Penang Chinese Clan Council.

Penang Event: SP Setia Cares - Michael Wong sings for Unsung Heroes

Dear readers,

This would be the first event shared after Chinese New Year festivals. We had been outstation for the celebration. Welcome you all back after the celebration.

After the previous Sally Yeh performance at SP Setia last year, SP Setia had invited Michael Wong Guang Liang to be the main draw at the Chinese New Year charity show. He will sing for you and all of us for 45 min at the charity show.

According to SP Setia property division (north) general manager S. Rajoo in Penang, they are expecting 10,000 to 15,000 people attending the free show, themed SP Setia Cares. Michael Wong sings for Unsung Heroes.

“Our ‘unsung heroes’ are those who tend to the less fortunate at various homes and centres. These people choose to work at such places not to earn a living but because they have a passion to help others,” said Rajoo.

The peformances of the event including fire-eaters, magicians, clowns, a “plastic man, lion dance and dragon dance performan-ces which begin at 6.00pm.

It followed with warm-up start at 8.30pm with an 88-drum performance by the Malaysian Drum Symphony, followed by singing and dancing by The Three Sisters. There will also be a magic show and an appearance by the God of Prosperity as well as a slide show Tribute to the Unsung Heroes before Wong appears on stage.
