Penang Event: Penang Chinese New Year Open House 2008


Dear readers,

I had come across this event from one of my favorite blog KoKahKok.com, and it is one of the event that you shouldn't miss at all as this is the biggest Chinese New Year Open House held in history at Penang. On this coming Saturday, there will be an special Chinese New Year Open House aka Miao Hui (Temple Carnival).

This event will be held at the Heritage Precinct of Penang, covering Lebuh Acheh, Lebuh Armenian, Lebuh Cannon, Lorong Soo Hong and Lebuh Ah Quee from 4pm to 11.30pm on Feb 16th.

This event is initiated by the state government and Tourism Action Council and organised by the Penang Chinese Clan Council.

What is so special about this event?

Showcase of 12 festivals...

During this event, there will be showcase of 12 festivals that celebrate by most Chinese which include

  1. Lunar New Year
  2. Chap Goh Meh
  3. Qing Ming (Chinese All Souls’ Day)
  4. Duan Wu (Dumpling Festival)
  5. Qi Xi (Chinese Valentine’s Day)
  6. Teong Guan (Hungry Ghost)
  7. Mid Autumn (Moon Cake) Festival
  8. Confucius’ Birthday
  9. Double Ninth Festival
  10. Winter Solstice Festival
  11. Send-off for the Kitchen God
  12. Wei Ya Festival.

You will be able to understand how Chinese celebrate each of this festivals as each event will be shown at various street in the Heritage Precinct of Penang.

Total of 80 curtural booths and food stalls will be setup around the Heritage Precinct of Penang.

Here are some highlights that you might not want to miss.

“At the Khoo Kongsi, Cheah Kongsi and Lo-rong Pitt, performances including ‘The Sweet Memories of Old Penang’ and other cultural activities will be presented on the stages."

"Don't forget about the Baba and Nyonya Wedding Ceremony at Cheah Kongsi on 6.00pm 16th Feb"

“And at the Jalan Mesjid Kapitan Keling main stage, a special ‘Chinese New Year Warm and Peaceful Night’ performance will be presented from 7.30pm to 10.30pm."



For whom interested in photo shooting, there wil be Chinese New Year Open House 2008 photography competition which is opened for college and secondary students.

Note:

Road leading to Heritage Precinct of Penang will be close for vehicles on 8.00pm (15th Feb 2008) to 11.00pm (16th Feb 2008).

Please help to go there earlier to avoid traffic jam and car park hunting.
